I am new here so I’ll use this as an opportunity to introduce us. My Mom has had signs of dementia since 1990 when she developed a very bad short term memory problem. But her progression has been very slow with little change until 2002 when she fell and cracked her hip. Since then she has definitely been late stage and not making much sense, incontinent, has bad osteoporosis and does not walk well. We have to spoon feed her. My wife and I are struggling to care for her at home but we are managing to do that. A book called “Learning to Speak Alzheimer’s” by Joanne Koenig Coste has been more help to us than anything. We have not used any medications except for a brief trial with Aricept in 2002 but that had no effect. So that’s a little about us and we are glad to be here.
